Village council meeting in Sowripalayam area: Na. Karthik MLA - DMK arrested
Coimbatore: The DMK held a meeting of the Grama Sabha in the Sowripalayam area. The police said that it is in violation of the ban in place and arrested several others, including the MLA.

Village council meetings are being held throughout Tamil Nadu on behalf of the DMK. The village council meeting was held this eveningat Indira Nagar near Sowripalayam in the Coimbatore East District, where permission for the meeting was being denied due to various reasons. It was attended by the public and DMK workers.

As it was alleged that DMK will hold the meeting despite the ban, police were deployed in the area. The village council meeting was started under the chairmanship of District Officer N. Karthik MLA in defiance of the police ban. As the police tried to stop it the DMK chanted slogans condemning Minister SP Velumani and against the AIADMK government.
Following this, the police arrested N. Karthik MLA, Area Officer Cheralathan, Ward Secretary Suresh, Manikandan and District Responsibility Committee members, General Committee members and DMK activists involved in the protest.
