Coimbatore: Farmers rejoice as heavy rains predicted for today in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: With the onset of Northeast monsoon, Coimbatore has been receiving moderate to heavy rainfall in the past 3-4 days bringing mich relief for the farmers. Both city limits and suburbs received good rainfall on Friday night.
Various parts of the district including Kavundampalayam, Saibaba Colony, RS Puram, Ganapathy, Vilankurichi, Peelamedu and Sundarapuram received more than average rainfall on Friday. With rain clouds circling the city, moderate to heavy rains are predicted for Saturday, across the district.
Farmers have expressed huge sigh of relief and have begun sowing of seeds, appropriately.
Rainfall recorded as of Thursday - 12 mm in Annur, 9.6 mm in Coimbatore airport area, 18 mm in Mettupalayam, 1 mm in Cinchona, 14 mm in Valparai, 10 mm in Sholayar, 17 mm in Sulur, 24.2 mm in Periyanaickenpalayam, and 2.4 the Agricultural University. The district recorded a total of 121.3 mm of rainfall.
