AJK College of Arts and Science in Navakkarai, Coimbatore celebrated Onam festival from August 14 to 20 with the theme "Theithaka". A special drug awareness rally was conducted on August 20, followed by mega Thiruvathira dance with over 200 participants and traditional Kerala cultural programs.
Coimbatore: AJK College of Arts and Science located in Navakkarai, Coimbatore celebrated the Onam festival grandly from August 14 to 20 under the theme "Theithaka". As the highlight of this celebration, a special drug awareness rally was conducted on August 20.
Dr Ajithkumar Lal Mohan, Chairman and Founder of AJK Educational Institutions, inaugurated the rally by receiving the awareness banner bearing the message "Say 'No' to Drugs; Say 'Yes' to Onam Sadhya" from Mahabali, marking the commencement of the event.

Students marched holding anti-drug banners and distributed pamphlets, urging the creation of a drug-free society. The rally proceeded from Navakkarai to the college campus with traditional musical instruments including Pancha Vadyam, Chenda Melam, Singari Melam, Thambholam, Nasik Dhol, Jamab, and Pandi Melam, led by King Mahabali.

A magnificent flower carpet created by students using 40 kilograms of flowers adorned the college campus to welcome Mahabali. As part of the Onam celebrations, traditional competitions including Pookkalam (flower rangoli), tug-of-war, and Uriyadi were organized. Students beautifully performed Kerala traditional art forms including Thiruvathira dance.

Various types of payasam including Adapradhaman, Mukkani Payasam, Semiya Payasam, and Naval Pazha Payasam were prepared and competitions were held. Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winning students.

The mega Thiruvathira dance featuring over 200 female students and faculty members captivated the audience. Pookkavadi and Kathakali performances were also held with great success. Female students enthusiastically participated in the cultural programs wearing traditional Kerala Kasavu attire.
As the grand finale of the festival, Onam Sadhya featuring 25 varieties of dishes was prepared and served to students and teachers. Students sat together and enjoyed this traditional feast with great joy.

Speaking at the event, Dr Ajithkumar Lal Mohan emphasized that along with the core values of Onam—unity, happiness, and prosperity—the awareness of creating a drug-free society should reach everyone. He stressed that youth should stay away from drugs and build a better society.
It is noteworthy that this festival not only spread Kerala culture and traditions among students but also created social awareness about important issues affecting the community.
