Two abandoned newborns in Coimbatore handed over to child care home

Coimbatore: Abandoned infants in Coimbatore treated at CMCH was handed over to child care home in Dharmapuri and Tiruchirappalli, respectively.


Coimbatore: Theabandoned newborn baby girl rescued by Cops near Singanallur here, is all set to begin her life, under a safe haven.

In October, acting on a tip-off by a hotel worker in Singanallur, the police rescued the abandoned baby and sent her to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment. According to the doctors at CMCH, the baby girl weighed 2.4 kg was five days old and has recuperated well after being monitored at the Neonatal Care Unit.

Soon after this incident, another 7-day-old boy baby was found abandoned at CMCH on October 14. The baby boy was rescued by a passer-by and admitted to the neonatal ward. Presently, he has gained weight and doing fine, told the doctors.

Under the aegis of the District Child Welfare Department, both the rescued babies were handed over to government-approved Child Care homes in Dharmapuri and Tiruchirappalli, respectively, under the presence of CMCH Dean Kalidas and RMO Ponmudi.

Speaking on this, District Child Protection Officer Sundaram said that the two children who were treated at the government hospital are healthy. They were handed over to the child care welfare home administrators, as per the guidelines of Child Protection Act.
