Reconsider reopening of schools and colleges on November 16 - President of Puthiya Tamilagam, Dr. K. Krishnasamy, writes to TN CM

Coimbatore: Founder and President of Puthiya Tamilagam, Dr. K. Krishnasamy, has written a letter to TN CM about reopening of Schools on November 16.

The letter reads, "Due to the onset of Northeast monsoon, the Diwali festival, followed by the winter and continuous festivals like Christmas, New Year and Pongal, and unusual weather conditions, COVID is likely to spread further in Tamil Nad. In this situation, the government should reconsider the announcement that schools and colleges may reopen on the 16th.

Millions of people around the world were affected by the corona pandemic, and it is only now that every nation is slowly recovering from it. Nevertheless, at least 50,000 people a day are still infected with corona.

Of course, the number of corona infections and deaths in Tamil Nadu is declining, but with the onset of monsoon and festive days, there is a risk of further infection. Tamil Nadu government has announced that schools and colleges will be reopened on the 16th. This cannot be considered a good decision. Due to such a decision taken by the Andhra Pradesh government, teachers and students there were affected and exposed to COVID.

When schools and colleges open after about eight months, the students will naturally mingle with their friends. Enforcing social distancing can be a daunting task. Therefore I think that COVID would start to spread again.

Once the COVID situation in Tamil Nadu has reached a level of parity, it may be right to open schools and colleges. Therefore, the government's decision to reopen schools and colleges on the 16th should be dropped."
