Corporation Commissioner holds review meeting on precautionary measures for Northeast monsoon in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: A review meeting with all the officers on COVID infections, sanitation and precautionary measures for Northeast monsoon was held at the Central Zone Office of the Corporation, Coimbatore led by Corporation Commissioner and Special Officer P. Kumaravel Pandian.

The Corporation Commissioner said coronavirus infection in Coimbatore is gradually declining due to continuous preventive measures by the corporation administration. He said all the departmental officers are working well. He said as the Diwali approaches, the public should avoid going out in large numbers to commercial shops, textile shops, jewelleries and hotels as much as possible. He also advised that shop owners need to control overcrowding in stores.



He urged the public to wear masks and follow social distancing‌. During these festivals, the public and businesses must follow the standard guidelines of the Government of Tamil Nadu and act with vigilance. Store managers should be made aware of the fact that customers who come to the shops should wear a mask and follow social distancing. Similarly he said that medical camps should be held in all zones. Health workers should go door to door and continue to diagnose people with cold, flu and cough. He asked to avoid crowding in buses. He said that all should cooperate with the above measures to protect the public from the disease and control the spread of the disease.

Following this, he asked the sanitary workers to go door to door in all the 5 zones of Coimbatore to collect garbage. He enquired about the activities of the Corporation's micro composting centres, the methods used to collect garbage in vehicles, and methods used in garbage collection at shopping malls and shops. The Corporation Commissioner inspected the details about garbage bins placed in the city and the solid waste management at restaurants and businesses producing more than 100 kg of solid waste per day.

He said that the Coimbatore Corporation will take necessary steps in all the zones to deal with the Northeast monsoon. He ordered that if the trees fall down due to the monsoon, the necessary equipment should be kept ready to remove them. He also added that schools should be kept clean and ready to camp people living in flood-prone low-lying areas. He also said that canals should be cleared of obstructions in all places where blockages may occur and cause flood.



The review meeting was attended by City Engineer A. Lakshmanan, Executive Engineer Gnanavelu, all Zonal Assistant Commissioners, Assistant Executive Engineer, Assistant Engineer, Health Inspector Thirumal (Swachh Bharat), all Zonal Health Officers, and Corporation officials.
