Coimbatore: In the Tatabad area of Coimbatore, TANGEDCO employees staged a novel protest by singing songs condemning the TANGEDCO chairman.

The dharna protest was held on behalf of the Union Joint Action Committee near the Electricity Board office in Coimbatore's Tatabad area.

At that time, slogans were raised condemning the reckless attitude of TANGEDCO chairman and MD, Pankaj Kumar Bansal.
Kandavel, one of the coordinators who later spoke to reporters, said the attempt to privatize the Electricity Board should be abandoned. He accused the board chairman of trying to sell the EB to the private sector without consulting the Joint Action Committee or the government on the matter.
Similarly, he said that the Electricity Board has now come under the control of the Central Government, adding that the employees of the Electricity Board had selflessly worked during the Corona period.
He said that while the police had given permission for the Dharna protest to be held all overTamil Nadu today, the police had refused permission for the same in Coimbatore district.
He also said that the 230kv substations have contracted out to the private sector and that the board chairman who took this decision should be replaced immediately. He added that The Tamil Nadu government has announced a 10% bonus for EB employees without consulting a joint committee and that they will not accept this.

During the protest, they chanted slogans calling for abolition of privatization of substations, employment opportunities for youngsters, immediate filling of vacancies and action to provide a 20% bonus. More than 500 people, including women, took part in the protest.
