Rajendran's mother Kanagam (70) was going for a walk last evening. An unidentified person suddenly snatched the 5 sovereign necklace she was wearing and fled. Similarly, a few days ago, another person snatched a 10 sovereign necklace from the 70-year-old mother of a policeman who is working as a driver for the Coimbatore City Police Commissioner.
The incidents of jewelry snatching the police quarters that is under 24-hour security caused a stir in the area. Race Course Crime Branch police have registered a case and are investigating. Three special teams have been set up on the orders of Police Commissioner Sumit Sharan to nab the culprits involved in the chain snatching incidents. Meanwhile, surveillance has been beefed up in the area.
