Coimbatore: Facing a financial crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, a 48-year-old astrologer allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Ganesapuram near Podanur here on Tuesday, as per police reports.
Coimbatore: Facing a financial crisis due to the coronavirus pandemic, a 48-year-old astrologer allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Ganesapuram near Podanur here on Tuesday, as per police reports.
Sivakumar (48) an astrologer from Ganesapuram near Podanur was survived by his wife Vasanthi (45) and two children. Due to the pandemic situation, Sivakumar was allegedly struggling to make ends meet since the lockdown.
With the festive season nearing, Sivakumar was allegedly in a depressed state, as he was unable to buy sweets and new clothes for his wife and children. Al his attempts to secure a hand loan to meet the festive needs also went in vain.
In despair, Sivakumar allegedly decided to end his life and consumed poison at his residence. His family rushed him to Coimbatore GH where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Podanur police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The suicide due to alleged financial crunch has left his relatives and neighbours in immense grief.
