Coimbatore: Two persons have been arrested for smuggling an idol in Coimbatore.
Coimbatore Variety Hall Road police led by Sub-Inspector Sivakumar noticed a suspicious looking gang at Idayar Street while on patrol. When they saw the police, the gang tried to flee.
The police immediately surrounded them and started questioning them when one of the persons managed to escape. Police then checked the bag they had and found a small statue in it.

When police inquired about the statue, they answered in a contradictory manner.
Following this, the police took them to the station and conducted an investigation, which revealed they were Jayachandran Mohan, son of Udayakumar from Sullivan Road and Venkatesh, son of Mohan from Perur Amul Nagar. The one who escaped has been identified as Thirunavukarasu. The two were arrested and imprisoned. The police are also on the lookout for Thirunavukkarasu.
