Coimbatore: The Northeast monsoon has commenced over Coimbatore district. According to the Indian Meteorological department, the southwest monsoon has fully withdrawn, and the northeast monsoon has set over the southern peninsula.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning were reported in multiple places in the city. According to officials from meteorological department, the district has recorded an average of 21.37 mm rainfall, yesterday.

In view of the upcoming northeast monsoon predictions, the District Administration and City Corporation has geared up preventive measures to avoid water logging and flooding issues. 18 low lying areas marked as 'high risk' has been identified in the city.
