The Nilgiris: Elephant electrocuted to death at Bithirkad
The Nilgiris: A wild elephant got electrocuted and died in Bithirkad. When a private estate manager patrolled the Anaiyappan Cholai area near Bithirkad in Pandalur Taluk, a wild elephant was found electrocuted and burned to death.
He informed the Bithirkad Forest Department about this. Gudalur District Forest Officer Sumesh Soman, Assistant Forest Ranger, Vijayan Forest Ranger, Manokaran and forest officials visited.
Mudumalai Veterinarian Dr. Rajesh Kumar conducted the autopsy. It was found that a power line goes through the place where the elephant died a few days ago. A 15-year-old elephant has broken the nearby baku trees. Then it was revealed that a palm tree fell on the power line, which cuth down causing electrocution of the elephant causing it to burn to death. The carcass of the elephant was buried in the same area after performingautopsy.
