Coimbatore: A taxi entered the petrol station near the Kuppusamy Naidu Hospital signal on Avinashi Road in Coimbatore at 11:30 last night for fuel. When the car was parked there, the bunk employees asked the driver to take the car out of the bunk as smoke billowing out from the front of the car.

The driver took the car a short distance away from the petrol bunk and when he opened the bonnet, fire started blazing. Seeing this, the employees at the petrol bunk tried to put out the blaze with fire extinguishers, but as the fire got out of control, the fire department was notified. Firefighters rushed to the scene and extinguished the fire.

Due to the fire, traffic police diverted the vehicles coming through that lane. Investigations into the driver of the car revealed that he is Alagar from Trichy district and currently resides in the RS Puram area of Coimbatore.

The fire was reportedly caused by mechanical malfunction in the car.
