Coimbatore: Ganapathy Silks and Saravana Stores in Coimbatore Town Hall fined for flouting COVID regulations
Coimbatore: Ganapathy Silks and Saravana Store in Coimbatore Town Hall area have been fined Rs. 2 lakh and 1 lakh respectively for flouting COVID regulations.
Corporation officials have geared up inspection of shops on Oppanakara Street at Townhall. As the impact of COVID in the Coimbatore district has gradually diminished, members of the public are flocking the bazaars for Diwali shopping. Thus, there is a risk of re-emergence of corona infections.

Following this, on the instructions of the Corporation Commissioner, the Corporation Health Department officials have split into various teams and are conducting sudden inspections at jewelleries and textile shops and check if COVID prevention measures are being properly adhered to.

Also, shop owners who allow overcrowding in violation of the regulations are being fined. Accordingly, the corporation officials have imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh on 2 textile shops for non-compliance with the COVID rules. While Ganapathy Silks was fined Rs. 2 lakh, officials imposed a fine of Rs. 1 lakh on Saravana Stores.
Officials say, "The public is flocking the bazaars ahead of the festive season. Thus, there is a risk of spread of corona. To prevent this, we advise the stores to follow government regulations properly. Shops violating the rules are being prosecuted and fined. This action will continue. Therefore, traders should adhere to the regulations issued by the government."
