Tamil Nadu Day celebrations in Coimbatore: Tamil Nadu needs a separate flag - Periyariya Kootamaippu demands

Coimbatore: As part of the Tamil Nadu Day celebrations today, the Coimbatore Periyariya Kootamaippu has demanded that the state government announce a separate flag for Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: As part of the Tamil Nadu Day celebrations today, the Coimbatore Periyariya Kootamaippu has demanded that the state government announce a separate flag for Tamil Nadu.

November 1 is observed as Tamil Nadu Day.

A cake was cut at the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam office in Coimbatore.

After the celebrations, TPDK General Secretary K. Ramakrishnan said, “Periyarists are celebrating this festival. On this day, we take pledges for recovering the deprived rights of Tamils and the creation of a casteless Tamil Nadu. For this occasion, we designed a white flag with a map of Tamil Nadu in it. However, the police have banned it."

"In the states of Karnataka and Nagaland, the respective governments have set separate flags, but it is not clear why the Tamil Nadu government banned this flag," he said.

"The Government of Tamil Nadu must declare a separate flag for Tamil Nadu in a manner acceptable to all people. In doing so, we will drop the flag designed by us. This day should be declared a public holiday like in Karnataka," he added.

Police security was beefed up in the area in order to prevent any untoward incident.
