TN Minister for Agriculture R Doraikkannu passes away due to Covid in Chennai

In a tragic turn of events, Minister for Agriculture, Doraikkannu passed away on Saturday night, due to Covid complications.

Chennai: In a tragic turn of events, Minister for Agriculture, Doraikannu (72) passed away on Saturday night, due to Covid complications.

According to hospital reports, following major setback in his health condition, he passed away at 11:15 PM on Saturday.

Earlier, the hospital had issued a statement yesterday stating, “His condition in the last 24 hours has deteriorated further warranting maximal life support and he is extremely critical”.

On October 13, Minister for AgricultureDoraikannu was admitted to the hospital after he experienced shortness of breath, while he was en route to Salem, to pay homage to CM Palanisami's mother. Initially, he was tested Covid-19 negative however he was tested positive, the next week.

The Minister was on ECMO and Ventilator support and was beingcontinuously monitored by the doctors.

Minister for Fisheries D Jayakumar and Health Minister C Vijayabaskar visited I'm at the private hospital and inquired about his health status.

Under the regime of late former CM J. Jayalalithaa appointed, R Doraikkannu was appointed as Minister for Agriculture in May 2016. This was his first cabinet post in the Government of Tamil Nadu.

His demise has left the AIADMK executives, farmers and his supporters in immense grief.
