Schools and colleges to reopen on November 16: Theatres to open on November 10th in Tamil Nadu

Chennai: The curfew extended due to the spread of corona infection in Tamil Nadu has been extended till November 30 with relaxations.  Permission has been granted to run theaters, schools, colleges and suburban trains.

In a statement issued today, Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy said: - The curfew order has been in force in Tamil Nadu since 25.3.2020 with various relaxations under the National Disaster Management Act as per the guidelines of the Central Government for the prevention of coronavirus infection.The Government of Tamil Nadu is actively working to protect the people from this epidemic and provide them with appropriate relief.

As a result, the spread of the disease has been brought under control.Importantly, in all the districts of the state, the spread of the disease is gradually declining.It is due to the excellent performance of the Government of Tamil Nadu and the cooperation of the public, the infection has been brought under control.With the excellent service of our doctors, the infection rate has been brought down to less than 7.30 per cent.The number of people affected by the disease per day for the last 7 days is less than 3,000.The number of people in treatment has dropped from about 50,000 to 25,000 now.

Based on the review meeting held on 28.10.2020 and based on the opinions of District Collectors, consultation with medical experts and public health experts, consultation with senior ministers and the National Disaster Management Authority for the prevention of coronavirus infection in view of the current epidemic status, the existing general curfew order across Tamil Nadu ending October 31 is being further extended till 12 midnight on November 30, with the following relaxations in various restrictions already in force.

 In view of the need to revive the economy and the nature of the epidemic, the following are permitted throughout Tamil Nadu with various relaxations already allowed in areas other than the disease control area:

 1) Schools (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grades only), all colleges, research institutes and educational institutions are allowed to operate following the standard guidelines from November 16th.

 2) All hostels including school/colleges and staff hostels are allowed to operate from 16.11.2020.

 3) The Koyambedu market is allowed to operate in the temporary premises from 2.11.2020 and the fruit and vegetable retail outlets in three phases in Koyambedu premises from 16.11.2020 in accordance with the standard guidelines issued by the Government.

 4) Suburban electric rail service is allowed to operate following standard guidelines in accordance with the decision of the Central Government.

 5) Film industry, including the small screen, is permitted to work with no more than 150 people at a time, subject to appropriate guidelines.Spectators are not allowed during filming.

 6) Considering the requests received from the theatre owners theatres can be opened following the standard guidelines issued by the government in areas other than the disease control area across Tamil Nadu. All theatres are allowed to operate from November 10 using only 50 percent of the seats.

 7) Religious meetings, social/political/entertainment/cultural events and educational ceremonies and related meetings are allowed to be held from November 16 with the participation of 100 persons in accordance with standard guidelines.

 8) Places such as amusement parks (entertainment/amusement parks), large halls, meeting halls, zoos, museums are allowed to operate from November 10 following standard guidelines.

 9) Following the standard guidelines, no more than 100 people are allowed to attend weddings and no more than 100 people to attend funerals.

 10) Gymnasiums will be allowed to operate with customers aged 60 years and below from 1.11.2020 following the standard guidelines.

 General

 According to the existing procedures in the disease control areas across Tamil Nadu, the curfew will be fully enforced without any relaxation.  Restrictions on the following activities, which are already in effect, will remain in effect until further notice:

 Places such as swimming pools, beaches, and tourist sites.

 The ban on international flights will continue except for routes approved by the Union Home Ministry.

The existing e-pass system will continue to be implemented for those coming to Tamil Nadu from outside states (except Pondicherry) and visiting tourist destinations like Ooty, Kodaikanal and Yercaud.

 We must all continue to work to completely eradicate the declining COVID spread in Tamil Nadu.  The public should be vigilant and avoid overcrowding, especially during the festival season.

 It is mandatory to wear a face mask when going out in public and in public places.  The spread of the disease can only be completely controlled if the public wash their hands frequently with soap and water at home and at work, wearing masks outside, adhering to social distancing and avoiding going outside unnecessarily, and cooperating fully with the government.

 Therefore, in the interest of the public, I kindly request the public to continue to cooperate fully with all preventive measures being taken by your Government.

I would like to inform you that the course of the epidemic will be monitored continuously and, with the cooperation of the public, it will be brought down completely. Further relaxations will be announced in due course based on the needs of the people.”
