Coimbatore:Money and gold jewellery snatched from two government employees near Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Money and gold jewellery were snatched from two government employees in Karumathampatti near Coimbatore. Nagamani is from Athappagavundanputhur area next to Coimbatore. She is working in Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation in Karumathampatti area. She went to work as usual yesterday and after her work was on the way to Karumathampatti in a two wheeler with Ramu, her colleague.
Ramu received a call while they were crossing a private college in the area. So, Ramu stopped the two-wheeler and spoke on the phone. Suddenly, two unidentified persons grabbed the handbag that Nagamani was holding and ran into the nearby forest area. Shocked by this, they chased them. The culprits used the opportunity to snatch a 6 sovereign gold chain Nagamani was wearing. They then attacked Ramu with a club and snatched his cell phone and Rs.500 and fled from the scene.
The Karumathampatti police were informed about the incident and arrived at the scene to investigate. It was revealed that the robbers snatched Rs. 20,000 and 6 sovereigns of gold jewellery including a mangal sutra. The police are investigating the possibility that the culprits may be North Indian workers working in one of the factories in the area. The incident has caused a stir in the area.
