Their bodies were recovered after a three-hour search. Tamilselvan (31), son of Nagarajan, who lives in the Indira Nagar area of Pappanaickenpudur next to Vadavalli and worked as medical staff at a private hospital in Ramanathapuram and Prabhakaran (29), Balasubramanian, who lived in the same area and worked in the marketing department of a private company went to temple today as it was Tamilselvan's birthday, and later went to the Chithiraichavadi dam area across the Noyyal river. The two were bathing in the river under the Kaikatty Pirivu bridge. Unexpectedly, Tamilselvan drowned and got stuck in the mud at a depth of 20 feet. Prabhakaran, in an attempt to recover Tamilselvam, drowned and got stuck in the mud too.
Those who were nearby informed the fire department and the Thondamuthur police station as the two did not come out for a long time. Firefighters arrived at the scene on information and tried to rescue the two. After fighting for more than three hours, their bodies were recovered and sent to Coimbatore Government Hospital for autopsy. Thondamuthur police have registered a case and are investigating.
