Coimbatore: In a bid to help women from poor background on behalf of the Government of Tamil Nadu, the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Memorial Marriage Financial Assistance Scheme is being implemented. Under this scheme, women who have completed Std. 10 are provided with Rs. 25,000, 8 gram gold coin and graduates are given Rs. 50,000 and 8 gram gold coin. Applicants are advised to apply 40 days prior to the wedding.

Beneficiaries can apply for these schemes online at Regional Development Offices, E-Service Centres and Corporation Offices. Applications received are sent to the office of the District Social Welfare Department for verification. Then, eligible applications are sent to Chennai.
A Social Welfare Department official said, "In the last two years alone, 10,400 women in the Coimbatore district have applied for the marriage assistance scheme. In the current year, no funds have been allocated for the scheme so far."
