Wind power, which comes under the renewable energy sector, plays a vital role in catering to the increasing electricity demands. The total installed capacity across the nation is 37,000 MW, out of which TN contributes a whooping 9,300 MW.
There are more than 18,000 windmills sprawled across the State. A period between the end of May and September is normally considered, as the windy season. As of October 25, the wind power season has come to an end.
Speaking to SimpliCity, President of Indian Wind Power Association (IWPA) K. Kasthurirangaiyan said, "This year, the wind power season started on May 20 and ended on October 25. This season was overall good. While 918 crore units were produced last year, this year around, 923 crore units of electricity was generated."
