Coimbatore receives about 200 to 250 tonnes of onions from other states including Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, due to the continuous heavy rains in the northern states in the last few days, the supply of onions to Coimbatore decreased. Due to this their price onions went up as a result of which they were sold for more than Rs.100 per kg. After that as the supply of onions started increasing, at present they sell for up to Rs. 65 per kg.
Rajendran, president of the TK Market All Vegetable Traders' Association, said, “The Coimbatore TK Market currently receives up to 250 tonnes of onions a day. Maharashtra onions sell for up to Rs. 65 per kg. Other types are sold for up to Rs 80 per kg,"
