Coimbatore: Income tax officials are conducting a raid at the residence of District DMK functionary R. Krishnan in Coimbatore. Tense moments prevailed at his residence at Pillayar Kovil Street, Kalapatti after DMK cadres and his supporters thronged the place and condemned the raid.

As he was away for a condolence to Erode, the IT officials waited for over 2 hours and commenced the raid after his arrival at 2 pm. R Krishnan joined DMK in 2010. Earlier, he had contested in Kalapatti as an independent candidate and was elected twice as Panchayat President.

Getting wind of the news about the raid, more than 30 of his supporters gathered in front of the house and raised slogans in support of him and against the raid.
Krishnan who is presently the District DMK Incharge of West wing, has been into agriculture and real estate business. Six IT officials, including two women officers were present at the raid at his residence.
Condemning the raid, DMK MLA Na Karthik in a press statement told that such raids will not silence DMK and that the raid comes in the wake of a protest led by DMK Youth Wing Secretary Udhayanidhi Stalin, yesterday in Coimbatore.
