Coimbatore: BJP protested in Coimbatore by hitting a portrait of Thol. Thirumavalavan with footwear and burning it.
The BJP staged a protest in front of the Coimbatore South Taluk office, condemning Viduthalai Siruthaigal Leader Thol. Thirumavalavan for insulting women.
BJP state vice presidents Annamalai and Kanagasabapathy and treasurer SR Sekar took part in the protest.
The police stopped the BJP members who tried to burn and effigy of Thirumavalavan.
Later they threw slippers at Thirumavalavan's portrait and set it on fire.
In an interview to reporters, BJP state vice-president Annamalai said that it was wrong of Thirumavalavan to insult Hindu women. He also said that Thirumavalavan habitually belittles Hinduism. He said that Thirumavalavan's comments are not mentioned in any Hindu Dharma text. He said that the text that was converted into English by the Brits for the purpose of conversion is used for political gain now. He also said they are attacking the BJP because of its development as a huge political force after 2016.
He also said that they will get appropriate retaliation in the 2021 elections. He said the BJP reflects the anger of Tamil women and that the arrest of Khushboo has caused pain. He said Thirumavalavan's act of justifying his speech instead of apologizing for it has fuelled people's anger and that legal action should be taken against him although he is an MP.
