CBI reports that in the TN custodial deaths case, the father and son duo of Jayaraj and Fenix were beaten up from 7:45 pm to 3 am. The custodial deaths of a man and his son in Tamil Nadu in June that shook the nation was investigated by the CBI. The CBI said policemen tortured the two for over six hours so brutally that there was blood splattered on the walls according to forensic evidence.
Jeyaraj and his son Fenix were arrested for keeping their mobile phone shop open 15 minutes beyond curfew on June 19. The chargesheet filed by CBI reveals they were tortured in intervals between 7.45 pm and 3 am. The post mortem report said that blunt injuries caused the death of Fenix. It is revealed that Fenix was asked to clean the bloodstains in the police station using his vest.
The CBI has also said that a false FIR was registered against Fenix and Jeyaraj to cover up the crime. CBI investigations revealed that the two did not violate lockdown guidelines and the police destroyed the evidence of the bloodstained clothes of the duo and threw them in a dustbin at a government hospital. The policemen used batons to torture the two men and the forensic teams identified blood stains on the police station walls. The CBI hence confirmed that the accused policemen had tortured the duo to death in Sathankulam police station. The two died of their injuries on June 22, within hours of each other.
There was no CCTV footage of the day. The court was told by the magistrate that CCTV system at the police station had the feature of auto-deleting footage every day although there is enough storage space in the computer's hard disk.
