The Nilgiris: An Indian gaur attacked a youth at Attadi area near Coonoor in Nilgiris district.
He died on the spot. The recent increase in movement of Indian gaurs in the Nilgiris district, especially in the residential areas, has caused fear among the public.
Under the circumstances, Ranjith Kumar (26) from Attadi near Coonoor,was attacked by an Indian gaur. The animal which was hiding in a bush, ran towards him and attacked his abdomen.
The Forest Department and the police recovered Ranjith Kumar's body and sent it to the Coonoor Government Hospital for autopsy.
With Indian gaurs often attacking the public, causing casualties and injuries, people in the area have requested that they be driven into dense forests.

Following this, Assistant Forest Ranger Saravanan and Coonoor Divisional Forest Officer Sasikumar handed over Rs. 50,000 as an advance to the relief fund of Rs. 4 lakh to Nithya, wife of the deceased.
