During the Navratri festival it is customary to keep golu dolls in everyone's house for nine days and worship Saraswati and Lakshmi after fasting. Navratri festival is celebrated for 9 consecutive days starting from the Tamil month of Purattasi to the month of Ipasi. All these 9 days people dance, do musical performances, and hold feasts. It is customary to decorate the house with golu dolls and treat relatives who visit the house. Beyond the traditional golu dolls, golu dolls with modern-day concepts are also kept. Today is celebrated as the last day of the Navarathri.

During the Navratri festival, for the first time at an apartment in the TVS Nagar area of Coimbatore, the visitors were impressed by golu doll that depicted Lord Ganesh wearing a mask. Apart from these, golu dolls that depicted online classes, hardships of children, and the need for excellence in agriculture were also exhibited.

Currently, the price hike of onion has made people look at it like gold. To pray for the price of onions to come down, the golu dolls were offered onions as offering to make them easily available to people from all walks of life. Golu dolls that depicted Ravana Darbar, Mahabharata scenes, the story of the Ramayana, and ancient agriculture, art, culture, and industry impressed the visitors

Girls and women sang bhajans in worship of Lakshmi and Saraswati. Unable to meet friends and relatives due to the spread of the coronavirus earlier, people say that they are happy to celebrate the 9th day of the Navratri festival with neighbours and relatives.
