14-year-old boy riding without helmet killed in road accident near Mettupalayam

Coimbatore: A tragic accident near Mettupalayam in which a 14-year-old boy was speeding in a two wheeler without wearing a helmet and hit an oncoming motorist led to the death of two.



Coimbatore: A tragic accident near Mettupalayam in which a 14-year-old boy was speeding in a two wheeler without wearing a helmet and hit an oncoming motorist led to the death of two.

Naveen Kumar (32) hails from Sirumugai Jadayampalayam area, in Mettupalayam. He is a contract worker repairing passenger seats at the Government Bus Workshop. Gautam (14), a ninth grader at a private school in the Mettupalayam Bungalow Medu area, was speeding in a Honda Activa with his friend Purushothaman without wearing his helmet.

At the same time, Naveen Kumar was traveling in a two-wheeler on the road from Mettupalayam to Annur at around 6.30 pm yesterday. The three were seriously injured in a head-on collision of both the vehicles. Naveen Kumar and Gautam died on the way to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for treatment. Purushothaman, who was traveling with him, was admitted to a private hospital with serious injuries.

The bodies of the two victims are awaiting autopsies at the Mettupalayam Government Hospital. The Mettupalayam police have registered a case and are conducting an investigation. The accident has shocked people in the area.
