Smart City work geared up at Kurichi Kulam: Officials say project will be completed in 4 months

Development of Kurichi Kulam at an estimated cost of Rs. 52.16 crore is underway in full swing under the Smart City project. Corporation officials informed that they plan to complete the work within four months.



In Coimbatore, work is being carried out under the Smart City project, including rehabilitating water bodies, drinking water projects, construction of sewerage canals, installation of solar powered LED lighting, construction of parking facilities and laying of model roads. Accordingly, under this project, the work of rehabilitating the 334.92 acre Kurichi pond at an estimated cost of Rs. 52.16 crore was started last June and is being underway in full swing.



The waterbody has a capacity of 50 million cft and the total catchment area is 12.30 sq. Km.A cycling lane, a pedestrian walkway, four decorative arches, 47 snack stalls, a variety of small shops, a modern parking lot on the Coimbatore-Pollachi road, gymnasiums for youngsters, 5.5 km of colorful decorative lighting, 4 solar panels, 36 wind turbines and 23 observation decks will be in place at the Kurichi Kulam.



Various facilities including a special observation deck will be set up to view sunsets and 2 sewage treatment plants will be set up.

Corporation officials said, "Smart City work is underway in full swing at Kurichi Kulam. We plan to complete the work within 3 or 4 months.”
