Coimbatore: TN Congress Working President Mohan Kumaramangalam in a Facebook post said that AIADMK should get the GST arrears from the Centre immediately and stop blindly supporting the Modi government.

The post reads, "A borrowed Rs. 1000 from B and B continued to ask A to return the money for a long time and got tired of it. A then suggested B to borrow Rs. 1000 from his uncle who is a money lender and asked B to pay the interest without fail. This is what happens in the GST scenario in Tamil Nadu. B is none other than Edappadi Palanisamy and A is the Fascist Modi government.

Statistics say that the debt burden of the Tamil Nadu government is already more than four lakh crore. It is almost an economic emergency and the states are dependent on the GST arrears from the central government which amounts to Rs 12,259 crore for Tamil Nadu alone. Speaking to state ministers and officials at the GST Council meeting on August 27, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that federal revenue has fallen and the government has no money to pay the arrears to the states and blamed God for this. The Modi government blames the pandemic, but it has wiped off the economy months before the onset of COVID-19."

Mohan Kumaramangalam accused that the government has already emptied the reserves that included the GST balance that it was supposed to pay to the states. He said the AIADMK government is a puppet of the Modi government that just puts in the futile effort of writing letters. He lambasted that the TN government does not have the tenacity to fight for its rights. He said the GST balance is the right of the states, it is not a loan that they seek from the Central government.

He added, "In a meeting on August 27, the finance minister introduced two types of loan schemes to state governments. The amount equal to GST revenue loss can be borrowed by the State Governments from outside or the Central Government would announce a loan scheme in collaboration with the Reserve Bank, and it is the responsibility of the States to pay interest on both types of loans."

He lambasted, "Is it right to ask the state governments to borrow when they are asking for their GST dues.? It hurts to think that the TN State Government we have chosen is not equipped to solve this problem. Tamil Nadu Congress strongly condemns the Central government-enslaved AIADMK regime for throwing away its rights and getting more and more debt ridden. The State Government should make every legal effort to compel the Central Government to pay the GST arrears immediately and stop blindly supporting the anti-people policies of the fascist Modi government and instead focus more on development and preserving the rights of the people."
