The Nilgiris: Coimbatore MP PR Natarajan has promised to meet Union Defence Minister regarding wage hike for employees of Coonoor Wellington Cantonment who have not received one since 1963.
After attending the unveiling of the statue of Coonoor Wellington Cantonment Association President Parameswaran, MP Natarajan met the media and relayed that the Cantonment management had not given any pay rise to its employees since 1963.
He said that Cantonment employees should be paid the same pay as municipal employees under the State Governments as in West Bengal and Kerala. He added that he would meet Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on the 27th and insist that he take action.
He further said that violent and derogatory behaviour against the SC community should be acted upon sternly. Cantonment Vice President M.S. Bharathiyar, Cantonment Employees Union President Asokan, BSNL Union representatives and ward members participated in the event.
