He had been working at a mobile store in the Vadavalli area since his college was not functioning due to the COVID-19 lockdown.
Manickam had been in love with a college student from the same area for the last 8 years. The girl had told Manikkam that wedding arrangements were being made at her home and asked him to meet her parents for a marriage proposal. Following this, Manickam went to the girl's house and asked her hand in marriage. They refused saying that they do not want their daughter to get married to him.
Due to this, Manickam, who had been suffering from depression for the past few days, killed himself suicide by hanging himself after writing a letter stating that no one was responsible for his death. No one was at home at the time of the incident. Vadavalli police have registered a case and are investigating the incident. The incident has caused a great deal of sorrow amid his family members, relatives and friends.
