Thangavel (65) is a retired government transport employee living in Makkinampatti area near Pollachi. His wife Ayyammal (55) is a headmistress in a government primary school. Thangavel used to take his wife Ayyammal to school every morning. It is alleged that after dropping off Ayyammal at school daily he used to sexually harass a student from the same school in a room in the school premises during afternoons.
It is said that the victim was beaten and intimidated when she informed headmistress Ayyammal about this. Following this, the victim sought transfer to another school. Meanwhile, Thangavel visited the girl's house and enquired about this in a threatening manner. Frightened by this, the student told her parents about the abuse. The shocked parents lodged a complaint at the Pollachi Women's Police Station.
Police have arrested Thangavel, a retired government employee who raped the school girl, and his wife, Ayyammal, who acted as an accomplice to him. They have been charged with attacking and intimidating the student. The police are involved in the process of producing the couple in the Coimbatore POCSO Special Court and imprisoning them thereafter.
