Coimbatore: Condemning the increase in onion prices, the All India Democratic Women's Association engaged in a novel protest in Coimbatore.
The price of onion has touched 100 per kg in the last two days. It is the most essential ingredient for cooking. The farmers across the country have been protesting against the recent Farm Bills by the central government.
The central government's removal of onions from the list of essential commodities as part of the law is said to be the reason for the rise in onion prices. The Association blamed the anti-people policies of the Central Government as the reason for the increase in prices of all essential commodities and onion prices.
They came to Nanjappa Road in a procession from Kattoor Road carrying a banner paying homage to onions. They also placed a wreath on onions to express their condemnation against the price hike.
The protest garnered everyone's attention as the protestors raised slogans saying onion causes tears but now the price of onions are causing tears too.
