The Nilgiris: Desilting of streams and ponds begins at Keeranatham Panchayat near Coimbatore
The Nilgiris: The inaugural puja for the rehabilitation of the Sambranikuttai and its check dam and stream in Keeranatham panchayat was done today. Siravai Seer Thavathiru Kumaragurupara Swamgigal, Kavundampalayam MLA V.C. Arukutty and Keeranatham Panchayat Council Chairman R. Palanichamy did the puja and inaugurated the work.

Technology parks in and around Keeranatham are growing at an astounding rate. Consequently, the people living there also dump their waste products in waterways and ponds, causing health hazards. So a barbed wire fence will be set around in front of the stream to be rehabilitated. This will prevent the dumping of garbage in the stream. In addition, solid waste management will be carried out in the Keeranatham area.
Following the approval of the District Administration, the District Rural Development Agency and the Panchayat Administration, the Keeranatham Neernilaigal Paathukaapu Amaippu will do the work with the financial assistance of the Robert Bosch Foundation and with the assistance of the Kousika Neerkarangal and Rock Organisation.
Keeranatham Neernilaigal Paathukaapu Amaippuhas been involved in groundwater augmentation and promoting greenery for more than 56 weeks in the Keeranatham Panchayat, which is home to many IT companies in Coimbatore.
As continuation of the work the organisation has been doing, the rehabilitation of Sambranikuttai, its 1.5 km stream and check dam will be rehabilitated. As a result of this, people living in the surrounding areas, various companies and shopping complexes will benefit a lot. The Coordinating Committee said that continuous efforts are being made to link the water bodies under the Keeranatham Panchayat to the Athikadavu Avinashi Groundwater Enrichment Project II.
