Coimbatore: The Union health ministry has split 733 districts across India into red, orange and green zones, designating all metropolitan cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad) into the 'no activity' zone even after the lockdown ends on May 3.

There are 130 districts in the red zone and 319 districts in the green zone.
Even before completing the stipulated time of 14 days with no cases, 13 districts in TN has been moved to orange zones. The total number of orange zone districts in Tamil Nadu now are 23, with Chennai still in the red zone.
The health ministry has relaxed the criteria of 28 days with no cases to 21 days with no cases for making the district a green zone. Districts including Coimbatore, Salem, Cuddalore, Trichy, Theni, Dindigul, Thenkasi, Karur, Tuticorin, Nagapattinam and Villupuram which falls under the category after the stipulated time period.
Coimbatore is expected to complete the criteria for no new cases by May 14 to become a green zone and Erode is expected to become a green zone by May 7. However, there will be partial easing in orange zones and liberal easing in green zones.
Tirupur still continues to remain in the red zone. The Ministry has announced that the list will be revised every week. The relaxations for districts termed as the orange zone is not clear, as yet.
Earlier, the government moved districts including Erode, Thiruvannamalai, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai and the Nilgiris to orange zones, as there were no new cases in the last 14 days.
