Kovai Kutralam Closed Tomorrow as Heavy Rains Trigger Flash Floods

The Forest Department has announced the closure of eco-tourism at Kovai Kutralam from August 29 until further notice due to a sharp rise in water flow following heavy rainfall in the Siruvani hills.

Coimbatore: The Kovai Kutralam eco tourism destination will remain temporarily closed to visitors from August 29 until further notice, following a sharp increase in water flow at the waterfalls triggered by heavy rainfall in the Siruvani hills of the Western Ghats.

While rainfall had remained relatively low across several parts of the Western Ghats and its catchment areas over the past week, increased rainfall in the Siruvani hills has led to a rise in water flow at the falls. In view of the conditions, the Forest Department has suspended visitor entry as a precautionary measure.

In an advisory, the Boluvampatti Forest Range Officer said the tourist destination would remain closed until the water flow recedes and conditions return to normal. Visitor entry will be permitted only after the area is inspected by the Forest Department and declared safe.
