Salem: Transport of goods from one place to another during this lockdown has become an arduous task. The Indian railways have been functioning as a vital link in transporting goods between places. The Salem division, in particular has been acting as an essential transport link between various places for transporting medicines and other essentials.

The Salem division, in particular has been acting as an essential transport link between various places for transporting medicines and other essentials.
A goods train containing 1.15 lakh litres of milk in tetra packets and eight tonnes of medicines for the Assam Rifle forces soldiers in Dimapur of Nagaland have been sent from Salem yesterday. In a special action led by the Salem Railway Division Senior Business Manager E. Harikrishnan and the Railway department, five high capacity goods wagons and SLR coaches carried milk and essential medicines from Salem to Nagaland.
Prior to the loading of goods on the train, under the direct supervision of the Senior Business Manager, thermal scanners were used to ensure that none of the workers had fever or any other COVID-19 symptoms. The workers washed their hands with disinfectants, wore face masks and maintained social distancing while loading the goods onto the train.
This initiative by the Business division was appreciated by the Salem Railway division Manager U. Subbarao and Additional Divisional Manager A. Annadurai. Even in the midst of COVID-19 crisis, Salem Division has been transporting medicines, facemasks and other essential goods to various places of the country in a safe and timely manner. Through this, the division has earned Rs.8.30 lakhs revenue.
Speaking about this, Senior Business Manager E. Harikrishnan said, "The Salem Division has been involved in the transport of essential goods and produce to various places of the country, 24 hours of the day. Producers and traders should come forward and send their commercial cargo and other essential products through goods trains.In these times of COVID-19 crisis, transport of medicines, food items, face masks and other essentials can be carried out safely to required places in a timely manner through goods trains. All arrangements can be carried out to ensure this."
He further said, "Special trains have been operated throughout the country and goods have been transported to places all over the country. Factories, organizations, enterprises and individuals have been benefitted from these special goods trains.
