Crowded shops and increased prices- Aftermath of Complete Lockdown

Coimbatore: After four days of complete lockdown, shops have opened today and people are thronging shops to buy essentials. The price of vegetables sold at the vegetable market seemed to have increased.

Complete lockdown in the districts of Chennai, Madurai and Coimbatore ended last night. Subsequently, these three corporations have been allowed to open grocery stores and vegetable markets for a longer duration, only for today (Thursday). Chief Minister Edappadi Palanisamy has announced that the lockdown will continue with the old rules in place from tomorrow (Friday).



Since morning the vegetable market operating at the Gandhipuram bus station was crowded. Vegetable prices also went up by Rs 10 to Rs 20 per kg. Shallots are being sold for Rs 70 from Rs 50, Tomatoes at the cost of Rs 30 which were sold for Rs 10, and Brinjal was priced at Rs 40 from Rs 30.



The public said that the price difference between Uzhavar Sandhai and the vegetable market is high. People bought essentials maintaining a queue and social distancing after four days of complete lockdown.
