Simplicity founder granted conditional bail by Court

Coimbatore: Andrew SamRaja Pandian, founder of Simplicity, Coimbatore who was arrested on 23rd April was granted conditional bail by the court, today.


Coimbatore: Andrew SamRaja Pandian, founder of Simplicity, Coimbatore who was arrested on 23rd April was granted conditional bail by the court, today. 

Andrew Sam was arrested in connection with news articles published in the portal on alleged irregularities in a public distribution system (PDS) outlet and the struggle of PG medical students for food . He was arrested based on a complaint from a Coimbatore Corporation official.

According to the complaint, the portal had published news articles which were baseless and false. The complaintant have also claimed that the news portal had published news items that were provocative in nature, for the sake of the portals publicity. 

Andrew Sam was arrested for offences under Sections 188, 505 (i) of the IPC and Section 3 of the Epidemic Diseases Act last week. Following the complaint , a photographer and a senior journalist of the portal were detained for hours at R.S.Puram police station and were let out only after the founder arrived at the station. Political leaders across parties, human rights activists and media outlets strongly condemned the Illegal detention of journalists and arrest of the founder.

The bail petition came up for hearing today and Andrew Sam was granted conditional bail. A Judicial Magistrate Court in Coimbatore which granted bail to Andrew Sam have directed him to furnish a bond for Rs.10,000 with two sureties and appear before the respondent police to sign a register from June 1 untill further orders passed.
