Though cases of COVID-19 are gradually increasing everyday, a majority of people infected recover and are able to move on with their lives.
PSG Hospitals is one among the hospitals in the city ear-marked for treating Coronavirus patients. Among the 13 patients undergoing treatment at the hospital, five patients have fully recovered and discharged today.
According to a release from the hospital, notably all five patients discharged today are from Coimbatore and are free from the infection.
Speaking to the press, Dr Karthikeyan who is part of the COVID 19 special task team at PSG said that, "Out of the 5 recovered patients, 4 were with minimal symptoms, however one patient aged above 50 had diabetes and was critical. He was admitted on April 3 and was shifted to the ICU due to breathing difficulties, he was under ventilator support."
"He is the first patient in Coimbatore to recover from ventilator support. His recovery has given a new hope for us", he noted.
Dr Karthikeyan also commended the selfless service of the nurses and other health staff. He added that of the 13 COVID postive cases being treated at the hospital, five have been discharged.
All discharged patients were advised to be under isolation for 14 days and take balanced nutritious diet.
Dr.Murali from the team said that PSG Hospitals has applied to ICMR for Plasma Therapy study, and waiting for approval.
