225 more cams in T Nagar as security up before Diwali

With Diwali around the corner, Chennai city police have intensified the security in T Nagar the city's busiest shopping hub by installing 225 CCTV cameras at strategic points. There are already around 200 CCTV cameras installed in the area.

Thieves move around mingling with the crowd posing as customers and strike at targets. So far, police have nabbed three 'Diwali Thieves' at T Nagar.

Following a Madras high court directive, police have not fixed any signages or hoardings bearing the pictures of regular suspects involved in crimes. An individual approached the court seeking a ban on such displays, especially during the festival season, and the court obliged.

The traffic police have made South Usman Road in T Nagar one-way allowing vehicles coming from the south and moving towards the north, while the traffic towards the flyover has been diverted towards Panagal Park and Venkata Narayana Road to reach the other side of T Nagar.
