Coimbatore : Due to heavy rain lashing the city, the Ukkadam under bridge has been closed to vehicular movement due to flooding at the under bridge on the Ukkadam-Athupalam stretch.

The Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover construction work was underway at full throttle with the city police also diverting traffic at various points to avoid traffic congestion in the area. Earlier, since June 3, heavy vehicles including lorries and Eicher trucks were diverted from using the Ukkadam-Athupalam stretch owing to the flyover construction work. Buses, two-wheelers and cars were allowed to use the two-way stretch.

But owing to incessant rains in the last two days, only two-wheelers were allowed on that stretch, The roads have been closed since Thursday evening and two wheelers plying from Ukkadam to Athupalam had to ply through the New Fish Market road and then Karumbukadai to join Athupalam junction. Vehicles from Athupalam and Ukkadam can now make use of the regular road on the lakeside.
