Coimbatore: A sanitation worker engaged in garbage collection in the North Zone of Coimbatore Corporation has earned widespread appreciation after finding a 3-gram gold earring accidentally discarded in garbage and returning it to its rightful owner. This honest act highlights the exemplary character and integrity of the city's sanitation workers.

Coimbatore Corporation is divided into five zones - East, West, North, South, and Central - covering 100 wards where waste collection activities are carried out continuously, segregating garbage into biodegradable and non-biodegradable categories. Sanitation workers involved in these operations visit thousands of households daily to collect waste.

On September 5, 2026, contract sanitation worker (SWMS) Seethalakshmi was engaged in door-to-door garbage collection in the Koundampalayam Ranga Layout area under Ward No. 18 of the North Zone. While collecting waste as usual, she discovered a 3-gram gold earring that had been accidentally discarded in the garbage she collected.

Immediately, Seethalakshmi decided to report the matter to her superiors. She promptly informed Zonal Sanitation Supervisor Sampathkumar and Sanitary Inspector Saranya about the finding. This honest approach reflects the sense of duty and integrity of sanitation workers.

Following this, Corporation officials conducted an investigation at the Zonal Sanitary Inspector's office. Through detailed inquiry, they identified the owner of the gold earring found in the garbage as Akhila. Subsequently, in the presence of Corporation officials, sanitation worker Seethalakshmi personally handed over the 3-gram gold earring that was accidentally discarded in the garbage to Akhila.

Akhila, who recovered her jewelry, expressed her appreciation and gratitude for the honest work of Corporation contract sanitation worker Seethalakshmi and Corporation officials. Delighted to have received her valuable jewelry back, she noted that such honest workers serve as role models for society.

This incident demonstrates the honesty and sense of responsibility of the city's sanitation workers. The event showcases that these workers, who are generally overlooked, are performing their duties in an excellent manner. It proves that these individuals, who work tirelessly to maintain the city's cleanliness and hygiene, also excel in honesty and responsibility.

Coimbatore Corporation officials have commended sanitation worker Seethalakshmi's honest act. They stated that such honest workers enhance the city's pride and serve as examples for other workers.
