Coimbatore : In a shocking incident, an 108 ambulance pilot who was found in an inebriated condition was stopped from operating the ambulance, at the last minute. The timely intervention by the city police stopped the driver who could have put the life of motorists and the patient in danger.

Ambulance driver Ganesh, who was in an inebriated condition was about to start the Ambulance from the old Government hospital in Tirupur to CMCH.
However, the patient and their attendees alerted Deputy Commissioner, Balaji saravanan about the incident, who in turn alerted the Tirupur Police for immediate action.
The Tirupur police reached out to the 108 managers who stopped the erring driver Ganesh from operating the ambulance. He was then subjected to alcohol sniff test and placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
The shifting of the patient to Coimbatore GH was delayed for over an hour, due to the irresponsible behaviour of the ambulance pilot during working hours.
When contacted by Simplicity, Tirupur Emergency Management Officer Lipin Jose said, “We got information that the driver is under the influence of alcohol. We immediately stopped him and subjected him to sniff test at the hospital itself. He tested positive. Further investigation of the case will be held in Chennai. We have sent the test reports and complaint to the higher officials for further action.”
The Swift action by the Police officials who helped to save an imminent road accident have been appreciated by the public at GH.
The Tamil Nadu 108 Emergency Ambulance services which began its operations in 2008 has 4500 employees working round the clock to save the people in the need during medical emergencies.
