Labour association protests against revised labour laws; claim to be 'unfair'

Coimbatore: Representatives of all labour associations staged a protest in front of the South Zonal Office, here on Friday, against the revised labour laws.

Coimbatore: Representatives of all labour associations staged a protest in front of the South Zonal Office, here on Friday, against the revised labour laws.

INTUC Leader V.R Balasundaram headed the protest. The protestors demanded the withdrawal of the bills that are against the public and labourers and favouring the corporates in the country.

"The revised labour laws seem to be favourable for the employers rather than the employees. Close to 44 welfare schemes are being short cut as four, in the revised bill", they alleged.

"While the labourers had claimed Rs. 18,000, as the minimum income guarantee, the centre has approved only Rs. 4628. Further, the revised law states that it is the prerequisite of the government to set working hours which was previously capped to 8 hours per day", they noted.

They also pointed that the revised laws states that it is not compulsory to give bonus to an employee for seven years from the date of joining. "And, all the benefits under Motor vehicle act has been revoked. Insurance and registration fees for vehicles are increased at the presentation of the bill", they alleged.

The labour association have accused the BJP of trying to implement unfair labour laws in a hurried manner.
