Coimbatore: Murugesan, the Chief Engineer of the Highway Dept inspected the construction work of the Karamadai railway flyover service road and instructed authorities to expedite the delayed land acquisition process.

To overcome traffic congestion due to the absence of a railway flyover at Karamadai near Mettupalayam, the railway flyover work estimated at about Rs. 34 crores was initiated five years ago. The construction work has been underway for over four years now. The bridge was completed and opened for public use, after a delay of two years. However, due to absence of service roads, traffic congestion in the area had not reduced.

The public in the area has been facing undue hardship being unable to access roads under the flyover. The reason for this has been incomplete land acquisition for the project. Therefore, the Chief Engineer of the Highways Dept from Chennai, Murugesan arrived at Karamadai to inspect the issues cropping up in the area. He examined the land to be widened for service road construction beneath the bridge and enquired with officials about difficulties encountered and the work completed thus far.

Murugesan also demanded a plan evaluation for the construction of a subway under the railway line and its implementation. He then discussed with the concerned contractor and Highway Department officials. He also spoke to the Revenue Department regarding the delay in acquiring the land and ordered the Highway Department officials to complete the pending work in a month's time.
