Coimbatore: After almost 13 years of separation from his homeland, Suyambu, a 20-year-old elephant, who was captured from Coimbatore, returned here as a Kumki elephant to the Sadivayal Kumki elephant camp today.
Coimbatore: After almost 13 years of separation from his homeland, Suyambu, a 20-year-old elephant, who was captured from Coimbatore, returned here as a Kumki elephant to the Sadivayal Kumki elephant camp today.
The elephant reached Sadivayal around evening and was stationed in the camp inside the reserve.
Suyambu would soon be joined by Venkatesh, another Kumki from the Kozhikamuthi Kumki elephant in Anamalai Tiger Reserve (ATR). The duo is to take care of Man-Elephant Interactions in the Coimbatore district.
Suyambu was initially captured from the Thadagam region and was taken to ATR as an eight-year-old sick orphan, where he was trained in elephant safaris and Kumki operations.
He was instrumental in the capture of Chinnathambi from Udumalpet and single handedly loaded the animal inside the truck. Notably, that was his first full fledged capture operation.
Both Suyambu and Venkatesh would be stationed in Coimbatore for two years.
