Coimbatore: The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, (ICCIC) Coimbatore and its member associations appealed the CCMC Commissioner and Special Officer Sravan Kumar Jatavath to reduce the property tax by 50% for commercial buildings and by 20%.for residential buildings

In their request letter, ICCIC they reported that the property tax for industrial, commercial establishments and residence situated in Coimbatore is being revised with retrospective effect from 01.04.2018 to 100% for industrial and commercial establishments and 50% for the residential areas.

The ICCIC members feel that this is on the higher side and will badly affect the public.

They also stated that the Madras High Court had ordered an increase of property tax for Chennai Corporation area by 100% for industrial and commercial establishments and 50 % for the residential buildings since the property tax in Chennai was not revised for the past 20 years from 1998. Whereas in Coimbatore, the last revision was in 2008.

And so they requested the CMMC Commissioner to consider reducing the property tax for Coimbatore area by 50 % to industrial and commercial establishments and 20% for residential buildings as the industrial scenario in Coimbatore is in distress and trade and business are facing difficulties in daily activities.

The letter also requested a six months’ time for payment of arrears of tax.

The letter was signed by C.Balasubramanian, Vice President ICCIC, R.Ramamurthy, President, CODISSIA, V.Krishnakumar, President, SIEMA, K.M.G Ganesh, Joint Secretary, SIMA, J.Sahaya Raj, Treasurer, CEBACA, V.Sivarajan, Chairman, BAI Coimbatore, Surender Vittel, President, CREDAI Coimbatore and N.Pradeep, SISPA.
