Coimbatore: A fire broke at Vellalore dump yard today evening at around 5 pm, following which two fire tenders rushed to the spot and are battling to douse the flames.
Presently, fire tenders from Peelamedu and from Coimbatore South each rushed to the dump yard and are in the process of putting out the fire.
"After the prolonged fire accident in March 2019, Corporation has taken enough measures to check the fire from spreading. Hence, we are confident that this fire will be brought under control in the next couple of hours” said J. Sravan kumar, CCMC Commisioner.
It may be recalled that on March 23, 2019, a major fire broke out at the sprawling 650 acre dump yard in Vellalore leaving at least 200 fire tenders of Tamil Nadu Fire and Rescue Services (TNFRS) from Coimbatore and neighbouring districts undergo a week-long struggle to douse the fire completely.
The officials from TNFRS alleged failure in maintaining pathways hindered the movement of fire tending vehicles. Following which, the Corporation reviewed the entire dump yard and commenced work of laying pathways and gangways to allow ease of movement for fire tending vehicles.
